This report draws on research which highlights the inequalities in access to nature and green space calling on the UK government to address this by committing to deliver open space within 5minutes walk of all.

In response to the climate and biodiversity emergency, Arc were proud to be one of the early signatories of Landscape Architects Declare. We are now endeavouring to adopt and apply the principles of the declaration throughout our work.

The Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by the United Nations. The 17 Goals include many aspects of relevance to our work as landscape architects both in our day to day projects and in how we communicate and inform others about the need address world changing issues at a national and at local levels.

Building with Nature

Vanessa Ross, director of Arc is an Approved Assessor for Building with Nature. BwN provides a national set of standards and accreditation which promotes sustainable developments through high quality green infrastructure combining best practice in water sensitive design, bio-diversity and health and wellbeing. Arc encourage all our clients to engage with this process and seek accreditation.

Design Review

Design review is an increasingly valuable tool within of the design and planning process. Arc director Vanessa Ross has contributed to many design reviews providing advice on landscape and public realm design as a member of the Design South East Expert Review Panel and member of the Ebbsfleet Design Forum.

Sir David Attenborough

We had to include a link to one of the greatest ever landscape hero’s. Here you can watch Sir David Attenborough’s inspirational speech at the 2019 Landscape Institute Awards where he received a Lifetime Achievement Medal and was made an Honorary Fellow of the Landscape Institute.

LI Climate and Biodiversity Action Plan

Published in May 2020 this is an important document for all practicing landscape architects. Coinciding with a declaration on the climate and biodiversity, the report sets out how the LI will lead and deliver on areas such as training and advocacy in the coming years.

It should come as no surprise that we think landscape architecture is a great profession to be in. The Landscape Institute has created a really helpful website which sets out how you can join the profession including links to all relevant university courses. As well as the website you can also follow @landscapecareer on Twitter.

FOLAR

This is a link to the Friends of the archive of the landscape Institute held at MERL at Reading University. FOLAR hold regular talks and an annual symposium on subjects relating to the history of the profession through the 20th-21st Century.

COP26 - IMPLICATIONS FOR THE LANDSCAPE PROFESSION

In 2021 COP26 was held in Glasgow. The Landscape Institute attended the event to represent and promote the contributions the landscape profession can make in respect of the climate and biodiversity emergency. A comprehensive resource can be found on the dedicated pages of the LI website.

TREES & DESIGN ACTION GROUP

This organisation provides excellent guidance on the integration of trees in urban settings and in new development. Publications such as Trees in Hard Landscape - A Guide for Delivery and First Steps in Urban Air Quality provide valuable resources for landscape designers and clients.
